About
Kris Owens grew up in Indianapolis working in productions all over town. He attended college at Ball State University on an Acting scholarship, and eventually found a path to Theatre Education. His first position was as the Theatre Teacher at Broad Ripple High School in the Theatre Magnet program. Leaving there in 2006, Mr. Owens earned his Masters in Communication, then moved on to teach Theatre at Ben Davis High School, where he taught for 14 years. He is currently earning his Masters in Educational Administration.
Mr. Owens is an avid writer, having written many of the productions he has directed in school and around the country. He directed An Evening of Shel Silverstein at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland in 2006, and his play Jesus, Shakespeare, and Lincoln Walk into a Bar was performed at the Indianapolis Fringe Festival, the Chicago Fringe Festival, the Kansas City Fringe Festival, and in New York City. His play Twelve Years a Slave, based on the memoir by Solomon Northup, was performed in Jacksonville, Florida and at the Black Theatre Festival in Atlanta.
